What is all this about?  Any guesses?  What do you think I want you to do?

We tend to complain about things, but we rarely find the means to speak out. Some of us give vent to their disappointment through words, which are spoken or written privately. Why not speaking out together? Let’s show the world we care about people, we care about things and we want to make a difference.
This is your time to stand up and take a stance and we will do it by means of tole-ranting.

What is it?
A tole-rant is a constructive rant. A 60 second heart felt video about a social problem that points to a solution.
Macmillan Dictionary describes a tole-rant as ‘a brief speech about a social problem that suggests a potential solution, usually taking the form of a very short, web-based video.’
Inspire hope about solving social problems. Rather than ranting about everything that is wrong in the world, tole-ranters (YOU included) speak from the heart about social problems, and point to potential solutions.
A tole-ranter has the passion of a ranter, but with the added vision for social change.

together we care

There are many social problems on our planet: climate change, poverty, access to clean water, terrorism, to name a few. But there is hope. Many of us are lucky to live in a web 2.0 world, a world of citizen journalism, a world where a single person equipped with a powerful idea really can change everything. In this world, we don’t need to just rely on governments and big businesses only to find solutions to our social problems – we can find them ourselves. By voicing and videoing our experiences and ideas in 60 second ‘heart-bites’, sharing them through the power of social media, we can spark a movement of hope, a movement of tole-rants. Tole-rants raises the voices of those who have hope for the future, and of all global social change makers who work towards solutions to social problems every day… lets hear you tole-rant!

In 2008, noted historian Karen Armstrong won the TED Prize. Her response: “I wish that you would help with the creation, launch and propagation of a Charter for Compassion, based on the fundamental principles of universal justice and respect.” (http://charterforcompassion.org/)

HOW TO
Seven steps to tole-rants…
STEP 1
get your phone, flip camera or other video recording device. Hit record.
STEP 2
start with “I’m tole-ranting about…” briefly setting out a social problem e.g. “I’m tole-ranting about ageism”
STEP 3
explain why the social problem means something to you. Why do you care?
STEP 4
point towards / describe a solution
STEP 5
if you fancy, finish with an iconic ‘T’ pose for tole-rants (like the logo).
STEP 6
upload your tole-rant (make sure it’s no longer than 60 seconds) on http://www.tole-rants.org
STEP 7
share your tole-rant

Tips to tole-rant

……..ask the person filming the tole-rant to give a hand signal when there are 15 seconds left so you can finish in time
……..always film more than one take if you have the time – practice makes perfect!
……..speak from the heart (e.g. use the first person; describe a relevant personal experience). The more you share from the heart, the more hope you are likely to inspire in the viewer. INSPIRE HOPE!

It’s time for you to tole-rant! Do it individually, do it together, just do it!

Be compassionate, feel compassion, contribute to a peaceful community. Shoot your tole-rant about any issue that deal with human rights, it could be any of the following, but you can add many more. Unfortunately our world is brutalized by lack of compassion, it is plagued by the abuse of human rights. Let’s do something together.
Watch these examples and choose the way you want to do it.

Dizraeli on climate change and hope

CLIMATE CHANGE TOLE-RANT

I am tole-ranting about hope.
I read the news today
It said we’re headed for six degrees
Flailing in the air after end of history.
Fat, bloated, cartoon-grotesque,
We don’t feel we’re falling ’cause we’re fixed on progress.
Focus!
The leaders we lemmings most need
Are too busy selling free trade to lemmings overseas
To oversee anything but their own paunches.
Four years in office makes a man so gormless,
But go forwards, make the story different.
You are a phrase in it,
State your magnificence.
Oil addicts!
Man, listen, listen please,
There are six billion ways to pull us back from six degrees.
And kicking an addiction is a trip and it’s an opened eye
You learn to leap when you don’t fly.
When you don’t fly, you travel by other means.
You travel under trees,
You unravel the colour schemes.
You choose the wind and the direction it blows.
Your turn—ready, set, go.

Andrea and I would love to dedicate this Tole-rant video to you, to Lisa Kristine, to the association Free the Slaves and most of all to all the victims of Modern Slavery.  We did not manage to stick to the 60-second rule because we wanted to create a different tole-rant, we wanted to add photos and music to it to create stronger impact.  Hope you will appreciate all the work we put into it.  Work of the heart and work of the mind.

This is Luna Bucovaz’s tole-rant:

I’m tole-ranting about suicide
Life is our greatest gift, we have to protect it, why waste it?
If you’re living through a bad moment, don’t isolate yourself
This is just a small part of your story
Don’t worry, everything will get better
Just wait.
If you’re feeling sad, don’t drown within yourself
Let someone give you a hand
Someone will help you, I’m sure
Death isn’t the answer
Hurting yourself you’ll hurt other people too, this is sad, so sad
Keep your life safe
Don’t press the trigger or take the rope or jump off a building
Think before you act! Count until 10
Life is long, full of sorrows but rich in sweet surprises too
Don’t give up, the best is to come
Let it come!

This is Chiara Toffoli’s tole-rant.

I’m tole-ranting about racism.
NO TO RACISM, NO TO RACISM.
I think that racism is ugly.
there should be friendship between a black man and a White one.
I think that if there were friendship in the world there would have been no war.
Racism is a word that should not exist.
maybe there are some black people who are messy, rude but this is so with some White people too have a heart. there’ s no black and White.
just be nice and real friends.
NO TO RACISM, YES TO FRIENDSHIP.
these are words that should exist,
which should be used,
that we should use to be sweet and true,
these are my true words.
RACISM IS UGLY, FRIENDSHIP IS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL THING.
IT ENRICHES OUR WORLD AND IT HAS NO COLOUR.

This is Sabrina Chiarot’s tole-rant about the trafficking of children

I am tole-ranting about children’s trafficking
Do you know that your money is wreaking a family? That the life of these children is not considered by their owner?
Your little boy will go through a long, cruel, journey after he’s being torn away from his house or he’s being sold by his family just for some money.
Think about it.
Adopt legally, save a life, save a child who has lost his parents and lives in an orphanage.
Make sure that the kid’s orphan and that he has no relatives, give him a new possibility, love and happiness.
Try to identify yourself with this little boy; how would you feel if someone tore you away from your home and your family?
You’re his safekeeper, you’ll save him from hell.
Give a new life to life.

Martina Di Bernardo’s tole-rant:

I’m toleranting about freedom of thought. Free . Free. We should be free. We need tolerance ..Teaching tolerance in the family.. I think that everyone should be able to express their ideas freely! Believe in what you want to believe. It is your culture…it is your religion ..it is your life…Express your feelings and fight for what you believe in . Be who you want .Love who you want. Dream as much as you want. Follow your heart, follow your dreams ,follow your mind. You can change everything. Fight and win for a better world!
